This is a familiar pattern.

You don't need to be told structure works — you've built it yourself, more than once. An app. A spreadsheet. A promise made on a Sunday night that held until Wednesday. Every time, both ends of the rope were in your own hands, and every time, you eventually let go quietly and told no one it happened. It's a familiar shape for most applicants who reach this page.

What Doesn't Change

Nothing here happens without you asking for it.

You can close this tab and go another six months managing it privately, and you already know roughly how that ends. Or you can hand the other end of the rope to an assigned House Officer who reads what you send whether you feel like sending it or not — and answers back.

The floor is set at admission and does not move. Where you land inside the range is conduct — a Tier 2 lapse adds days, and reporting it yourself costs fewer than being caught. Past the ceiling, nothing is added without your agreement.
Safeguards

The House Officer proposes.
The code decides.

An AI administers the day. It does not get to decide how far anything goes. Each limit below is enforced by the system itself — not by instructions the House Officer is asked to follow, and not by its judgement in the moment.

Only you can raise a flag
The House Officer cannot raise, lower or clear a safety flag, and cannot stop the Governor being told. Raising one is never rate-limited, however often you do it.
A Red flag stops consequences
While it holds, no infraction can be recorded and the daily musters stop being chased. That is a check inside the system, not an instruction to the AI — it holds even if the House Officer ignores everything else it was told.
Relief is a fixed menu
Four options, up to two at once, written in advance and checked by the server. Nothing is improvised for you, and nothing is invented on the spot.
Penalties are calculated
Escalation thresholds, penalty length and Term length come from fixed numbers. The House Officer reports what happened and how serious it was; how many days that costs is computed, not chosen.
The cooldown is a clock
A Red flag opens a cooldown that ends on a timestamp, closed out by a scheduled job. Nobody can talk it into lasting longer — and you can end it early yourself.
Letters fail closed
Correspondence between you and a partner is screened in both directions. If screening is unavailable for any reason at all, the letter is held rather than passed along.

What is instant, and what is not. Raising a Red flag, ending a cooldown early, clearing a Yellow flag and filing a welfare report all take effect the moment you tap them — no approval, no conversation, no explaining yourself. Ending a Term early is different: that is a request the Governor reviews. The asymmetry is deliberate. A structure you can walk out of the moment it gets uncomfortable is not a structure — and the machinery above is how difficulty is kept from becoming harm.

The Governor

A role,
not a personality.

You are told throughout this site that a Governor reviews, approves and closes. It is fair to want to know what that means, and what holds it in place. The honest answer is that the role is defined by what it is obliged to do — not by who happens to hold it.

Not in your day
The House Officer administers the daily standard. The Governor decides only what should not be decided casually: admission, extension, closure, and anything escalated. Consulted when it matters, not consulted constantly.
Every decision is written down
Not offered as a promise — it is how the system is built. There is no path through the Governor's dashboard that leaves no record of who decided what, and when.
The serious ones take effort
Suspending, exiting, restarting or archiving a Term each require the word typed out in full before they will run. Deliberate friction, so that nothing heavy happens quickly or in a bad mood.
The limits apply here too
A Red flag cannot be cleared without a written reason. The same constraint the House Officer works under points at the Governor as well — nobody gets to wave something away silently.
Capacity is capped
The number of Governor-assigned Terms running at once is limited in the system, and when it is full, admission is refused rather than granted thinly. Attention that is promised to everyone is owed to no one.
Authority stops at the boundary
Greywell is a structure for adults, not clinical care, urgent support, or legal or financial advice. The Governor holds programme authority and nothing beyond it.

Why there is no name on this page. Because the role should not depend on it. A Term administered well does not require you to like, admire, or know the person administering it — it requires the standard to be applied the same way on the day they are tired as on the day they are not. That is what the written record and the fixed limits are for. If the role changed hands tomorrow, everything above would still be true, and that is the point of building it this way.

What does the fee cover, and how much is it?+
Not a subscription. Base Terms range $39–$135 depending on governance route and length; DNS accountability, partner roles, and the post-Term License Period are separate optional additions, full range up to $275. Exact figures are disclosed before admission, never in advance. Full breakdown on Fees.
Is Telegram a way to start an application?+
No. The web application at /apply/ is the only way to start intake. Telegram is a contact-route choice made inside that form, for receiving messages after admission.
Is this a physical or clinical service?+
No. A remote adult accountability structure — reporting, written standards, evidence, review. No clinical care, legal advice, or physical contact.
What happens when my Term ends?+
The Governor closes it to one of four formal outcomes. From there you can stop, accept an optional License Period, or — only once already at the Term's outer day limit — petition to extend further. Full detail on Closure.
How many places are available?+
Governor-assigned Terms are limited by real weekly-oversight capacity — a small number of concurrent Terms during beta. The waitlist records interest for when intake expands.
Can I apply if I have a partner?+
Yes, if nominated by the applicant, separately consented, and approved by the Governor. Not required for admission. Your partner needs no particular app — when invited they choose how Greywell reaches them, by email, by Telegram, or by a passphrase and no contact details at all.
